School Age Room Goals

By the time the children graduate from the School Age Room we hope that they are able to:

	get along with others in a positive manner
	respect the rights of others and their property
	be able to work and play productively, independently or in a group setting
	self-help skills appropriate for their age
	appropriate manners

We plan stimulating experiences in a warm and secure setting that fosters the growth of each child as an individual. The group supports and stimulates each other in a family-like atmosphere of caring and sharing.

The School Age program at Cobourg Day Care offers care to approximately 26 children, ranging in age from 6 to 12, in two separate rooms. We offer Before and/or After school care and full day care for PA Days, March Break, summer holidays and Christmas Break.

The Centre opens at 6:30am

Before School Care:

The children who are bussed to C.R. Gummow leave at 8:00am

The children who walk to school depart from CDC Inc at 8:30am (walking to Grant Sine and St. Joe’s)

After School Care:

The children arrive at the Centre:

Pick up from C.R. Gummow bus stop 2:50pm

Walking back from Grant Sine school 3:05pm

Walking back from St. Joseph’s and the bus stop for St. Michael’s School 3:30pm

School Age Schedule for Non-School Days:

6:30am - 7:30am	Free play in the Senior Room (leave early if busy).
7:30 am - 8:30am	Move to JK/SK Room for Freeplay and snack (SA put on sun screen).
8:30am - 9:30am	Outside activities.
9:30am - 11:15am	Free play and planned creative, games, and time to discuss the days events, info, etc.
11:15am - 11:30am	Tidy up and hand wash.
11:30am - 12:15pm	Lunch.
12:15pm - 12:30pm	Washroom.
12:30pm -1:30pm	Group chapter book and book activities in small groups.
1:30pm - 3:30pm	Free play, Creative and games.
3:30pm - 4:00pm	Snack.
4:00pm - 4:30pm	Sun screen and quiet reading.
4:30pm - 5:30pm	Outside play.
5:30pm - 6:00pm	Free play in School Age Room
6:00pm	Centre closes

School Age Before and After Care Schedule:

6:30am - 7:30am	Free play in the Senior Room (leave early if busy).

2:50pm - 3:30pm	Come back from school
3:00pm - 4:00pm	Snack.
4:00pm - 4:30pm	Sun screen and quiet reading.
4:30pm - 5:30pm	Outside play.
5:30pm - 6:00pm	Free play in School Age Room
6:00pm	Centre closes

At 4:00pm the SA children divide up into 2 rooms if numbers warrant. A maximum of 11 children at a time go upstairs and 15 can remain downstairs. Children with home work are the first one to go upstairs. If no children have homework and numbers are over, then children go upstairs for quiet activities.
