Welcome to the Toddler Programs!
Your toddler will be entering a fun and busy room. The toddlers are learning a lot of new activities and trying to develop their independence.
The staff in this program helps the Toddlers express themselves by encouraging them to use their developing verbal skills. Physical contact is the way most toddlers try to express themselves and the staff is aware that confrontations may arise. Every effort is made to redirect the children in a positive manner.
The ration for this program is 1 staff for every 5 Toddlers
Your child will have a cubby for coats, boots, shoes etc. as well as a basket where their artwork and items to go home will be kept. They will also have a folder that contains a daily activity form. This form enables the staff to be aware of how your child’s night and early morning has progressed. In return, the staff will comment on your child’s daily activities. This will enable you to be more involved in your child’s day at Cobourg Day Care.
There will also be a drawer in the room for your child to keep extra clothing and diapers in. Any medicated creams need to be kept in the bathroom cupboard, away from the reach of children. You should be aware that ALL children use sip cups in the Toddler room instead of bottles

Toddler Daily Schedule:
| 6:30am |
The center opens and the Toddlers and Infants are in one room for free play until 8:00am |
| 8:00am |
Snack is served in the Toddler Room. The menu is posted in the Parents Board. If you have any concerns or ideas please feel free to speak to the staff.
After snack the children have free play and a supervised creative activity. During this time, the children have their diapers changed and are encouraged to try sitting on the toilet. One of the goals in the Toddler room is to get the children familiar with using the toilet. Parents are encouraged to talk to the staff about training pants and appropriate training cloths. |
| 10:00am |
We turn out the lights and sing a song to tidy up. The children are encouraged to help put the toys away. We then sit at tables and have a snack. Following snack we have circle. Staff and children sit on the floor in a circle, sing songs and have flannel stories or other activities that are based on our themes.
After circle it is time to get read to go outside. The children are encouraged to use their self-help skills, i.e. putting on and taking off their own coats. If the weather does not permit outdoor time, we do large motor activities in our room. |
| 11:30am |
It is now time for lunch. Everyone washes their hands and puts on a bib before sitting at the table. A small group sits at each table with a staff member who encourages and assists with table manners. This is a good time for child/staff or child/child conversation. As each child finishes their meal they are given a face cloth to wash their face and hands while waiting at the table for their friends. |
| 12:30pm |
Following lunch the children go to the bathroom to brush their teeth and have their diapers changed before going to bed Staff assist the children to rest by rubbing their backs while lullabies are played. Your child will need their own blanket to have for sleep. Soothers are used on a minimal basis and this might be a good time to eliminate its use (if this is something you wish to change). Our sleep time is approximately 2 hours long. |
| 2:30pm |
When the children wake up we have a snack, do our washroom routine and then go outside to play. |
| 3:30pm |
This is our outdoor time (weather permitting). It is normally from 3:30 to 4:30 when the children come indoors we have Freeplay until Mom and/or Dad arrive. |
| 6:00pm |
Centre closes |
Our program encourages children to become independent and confident in their own abilities, but also fosters consideration for others around them. We provide a variety of materials and experiences to help fulfill their curiosity about the world around them.
Toilet Training Information
If your child shows us that they are ready to toilet train (for example: being able to hold bladder) we will contact you to discuss bringing in underwear and extra cloths. Your child will require a number of changes or cloths in their cubby. While wearing underwear, children are more aware of being wet or dry.
